WASHINGTON: Despite the failure to reach an agreement with Russian President Vladimir Putin, President Donald Trump said he had a “very good” discussion with Ukraine’s Volodymyr Zelensky on Wednesday and insisted that efforts to negotiate a ceasefire remained on track.
The US president said he spoke with his Ukrainian counterpart for about an hour on Tuesday, as Kyiv and Moscow accused one another of violating a ceasefire in attacks on energy infrastructure that was agreed upon during Trump’s discussions with Putin.
“Much of the discussion was based on the call made yesterday with President Putin in order to align both Russia and Ukraine in terms of their requests and needs,” Trump stated on Truth Social.
