McMahon, a longtime Trump supporter, gave millions of dollars to Trump’s campaign and served as the head of the Small Business Administration during his first year in office.
After Trump returns to the White House in January 2025, McMahon may be given the responsibility of closing the Department of Education, which Trump has criticized and promised to do.
Mehmet Oz, a well-known physician and former television host whose methods have drawn criticism, was previously appointed by Trump to head the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).
Along with Trump’s appointment of Howard Lutnick as commerce secretary, the two appointments made on Tuesday continue a trend in which the president-elect names devoted supporters to important positions in his cabinet.
