WASHINGTON: In a flurry of activity to kick off his second term, President Donald Trump announced Wednesday that an additional 1,500 US troops would be deployed to the Mexican border as part of a crackdown on illegal immigration and diversity initiatives.
The 78-year-old Republican, who has promised a “golden age” for America, stopped the flow of refugees and threatened to bring charges against local officials who do not deport migrants.
The billionaire also mandated that US government employees participating in diversity programs, which are intended to combat racism and sexism, be placed on paid leave immediately as part of his flurry of right-wing policies upon his return to office.
Trump spoke with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman on what was allegedly his first phone conversation with a foreign leader since assuming office on Monday.
