WASHINGTON: Donald Trump will take the oath of office on Monday, beginning another contentious four-year administration in which he has pledged to expand the scope of presidential authority, deport millions of immigrants, exact revenge on his political rivals, and change the US’s place in the world.
After surviving two impeachment proceedings, a felony conviction, two assassination attempts, and an indictment for trying to reverse his 2020 election loss, Trump’s inauguration marks the culmination of his victorious comeback.
The ceremony will be held within the US Capitol’s Rotunda at noon (1700GMT), four years after a group of Trump supporters broke through the emblem of American democracy in an attempt to prevent Republican Trump from losing to Democrat Joe Biden in 2020.
