It is remarkable that a presidential candidate would appear in court six days prior to the Iowa caucuses with the intention of refuting a 250-year-old notion of what constitutes the presidency. However, on Tuesday, Donald Trump will make another attempt to abuse those powers in an attempt to save himself. If this high-stakes legal maneuver is successful, it would put him and any other elected president beyond the law. Given the 45th president’s frequently expressed opinion that he was nearly omnipotent throughout his administration and that he may still be entitled to such powers, the historic event that is about to take place is not all that shocking. The front-runner in the Republican primary says he plans to attend the District of Columbia Circuit US Court of Appeals.
