As time runs out before a deadline on Thursday night, tens of thousands of US government employees have reportedly accepted a resignation offer from the Trump administration.
Federal workers have until Thursday at midnight to choose whether to resign in return for continuing to be paid through September 30.
Last week, two million federal employees were informed that they might choose to participate in the postponed resignation program, which is similar to a gradual buyout.
According to US media, over 1% of that workforce has so far opted to participate, comprising 20,000 to 40,000 government employees.
The White House informed US media that they anticipate a surge in participation in the election, despite having previously stated that it expected up to 200,000 people to accept.
