Before the aircraft made an emergency landing in New York, a Turkish Airlines pilot tragically passed away in midair.
The aircraft departed from Seattle, a coastal city in western Washington, on Tuesday night, according to a statement released by the airline on Wednesday.
Speaking for X, Yahya Ustun, an airline spokesperson, stated: “The pilot of our Airbus 350… flight TK204 from Seattle to Istanbul collapsed during the flight.”
“The flight crew, consisting of a co-pilot and another pilot, attempted an emergency landing, but the man passed away prior to the landing,” the statement reads.
