Amsterdam: The European Union’s police agency said on Friday that two dozen persons were arrested this week for their involvement in a criminal organization that disseminated artificial intelligence-generated photos of children being sexually abused.
According to Europol, the operation is among the first to deploy AI-generated child abuse material, and the usage of AI technologies for this purpose is not covered by national laws.
The primary suspect, a Danish national, disseminated the AI-generated content he created via an internet site. A “symbolic online payment” was made by users worldwide in order to gain access to the site.
Authorities from 19 nations, including Australia, Spain, and the United Kingdom, are participating in the ongoing operation.
