Prosecutors stated that his godson Karl Jordan Jr. and childhood friend Ronald Washington killed the DJ in retaliation for being left out of a cocaine deal.
In 2002, the 37-year-old victim—real name: Jason Mizell—was shot in the head and died at his New York recording studio.
Along with the deaths of rap legends Tupac Shakur and Notorious B.I.G., it was one of the most notorious killings in hip hop history.
Assistant US attorney Artie McConnell urged the jury during his closing remarks, saying, “20 years is a long time to wait for justice… don’t let this go on for another minute.”
Jordan,40, and Washington,59, both entered not guilty pleas to the murder charges, and neither offered to testify. Mizell’s childhood friend shouted at the jury after the case was found guilty, “Y’all just killed two innocent people.”
As his fans started to cry, Jordan also said, “I love y’all,” as he and Washington were led out of the New York courtroom.
