When cables on a bridge arch that was being lifted into position snapped, causing it to fall to the earth, the incident at Lochem occurred.
Two more persons were hurt and are receiving medical attention at the hospital.
Authorities referred to the collapse of the bridge as a “industrial accident” and stated that an inquiry was underway to determine what caused it.
Authorities told Dutch television NOS that one of the deceased workers was from Belgium and the other was from Poland. Their names and ages were withheld, along with any other information.
When the collapse occurred, dozens of people were witnessing the bridge piece being swung into position. It is said that they are receiving psychological assistance.
One witness claimed to have seen the arch sway before hearing an abrupt, loud crash.
