At 11:00 p.m., a dozen militants brandishing automatic weapons stormed the mountaintop checkpost, according to police spokesman Saqib Bangash, who spoke with Dawn over the phone.
He stated that because of their grave condition, the injured constables, Barkatullah and Imtiaz, who had been taken to the KDA Teaching Hospital in Kohat and then the Hangu District Headquarter Hospital, were transported to a prominent medical facility in Peshawar.
He added that it was unclear where the terrorists originated but that the region was linked to the mountain ranges of Sumari Payan, Kohat, North Waziristan, and Thall.
Not long after the assault, militants and the police officers stationed at the checkpost exchanged gunfire, which went on for an hour.
