Two well-known restaurants were closed by the regional tax office (RTO) in Islamabad for producing fictitious receipts as part of the Federal Board of Revenue’s (FBR) initiative to increase Tier-1 retailers’ tax compliance.
The closures occurred when a team from the RTO Islamabad, under the direction of the Deputy Commissioner, used point-of-sale (POS) tracking software to identify the fraudulent receipts. For such violations, each eatery received a Rs500,000 fine.
This enforcement action coincides with the POS prize scheme’s October 25 launch in Islamabad.
The program offers cash awards to citizens who report fraudulent receipts through the Tax Asaan app. In an effort to stop the practice of sending fraudulent invoices, verified reports will result in fines for the violating shops.
