According to the Metropolitan Police, Rex Clark, 18, and Sofija Vinogradova, 19, are both accused of planning terrorist attacks.
Vinogradova, a resident of Cheshunt, Hertfordshire, is additionally accused of two counts of gathering information that could be helpful to someone planning or carrying out a terrorist act.
Chief of the Met Police’s counterterrorism command, Dominic Murphy, stated that the charges have nothing to do with the nationwide unrest that followed the stabbings in Southport.
He went on, saying, “I want to reassure the public that, while our investigation is still ongoing, we do not currently feel that there is a larger threat relating to this probe.
On August 4, Vinogradova was initially taken into custody on suspicion of having a gun and gathering material that could be useful to a terrorist.
She was freed on bond following a Cheshunt property search.
On August 10, she was detained once more at the same address, along with Clark, who lives in Ilford, east London.
Today is the pair’s scheduled appearance at Westminster Magistrates’ Court.
