Kizza Besigye, a well-known opposition leader in Uganda, has appeared before a military court in the country’s capital, Kampala, where he has denied accusations of illegally possessing firearms and engaging in negotiations to purchase weapons outside.
After his wife claimed that he was abducted in neighboring Kenya last Saturday and returned home, where he was being imprisoned in a military jail, he made his appearance.
Winnie Byanyima said in a post on X that her 68-year-old husband had been arrested during a book launch event in Nairobi, Kenya, and she called on the Ugandan authorities to release him.
During the highly guarded military court session, Besigye was informed that he would be detained until December 2.
