Following the horrific murder of 10-year-old British-Pakistani Sara Sharif, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Thursday called for more protections for homeschooled children and stated that there were “questions that need to be answered.”
In a trial that exposed graphic details of the violence Sara endured and the child protection authorities’ inaction in the face of warning indications, Sara’s father and stepmother were found guilty of her murder on Wednesday.
The “awful” case, according to Starmer, was “about making sure that [there are] protecting safeguards for children, particularly those being home-schooled.”
After years of maltreatment, the girl was discovered dead in her house in August 2023 with severe injuries, including burns, fractured bones, and even bite marks.
Urfan Sharif, her father, had whisked her away months previously.
