A yellow weather alert has been issued by the Office, covering a wide area that includes the Scottish Borders, Edinburgh, Fife, Perthshire, Tayside, Aberdeenshire, Moray, and portions of the Highlands.
The warning is in effect as of 11 a.m. and will last until 10 p.m. today.
Slow-moving, intense rainstorms and thunderstorms have the potential to interrupt travel, create power outages, and trigger flooding in some areas.
“There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be quickly flooded, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail, or strong winds,” the office has issued a warning.
“There is a small chance of fast-flowing or deep floodwater causing danger to life.”
