We move quickly towards Liptsy, which is currently under assault.

Russian military have crossed the border north of Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city.

The people escorting us are members of the Ukrainian National Guard, some of the most recent reinforcements dispatched to thwart Russia’s latest offensive. They’ve gone from one deadly combat in the east to another further north without stopping.

When we arrive to their position, which is only a mile from the front line, the thunderous thuds of artillery become more intense.

We sprint past a burning fire and into a bunker, where we are instructed to take cover.
