GENEVA: The UN human rights commissioner expressed his “trouble” about the oppressive measures used by US security forces to disperse pro-Palestinian demonstrations on college campuses on Tuesday.
In a statement emailed to journalists, Volker Turk expressed his concern that some law enforcement activities across a number of colleges seemed to have disproportionate effects. He made reference to student arrests and sanctions.
“It must be clear that legitimate exercises of the freedom of expression cannot be conflated with incitement to violence and hatred,” he stated.
