If there isn’t enough room, separate restrooms for each gender may be offered in addition to single-sex restrooms.
The proposed legislation does not apply to care homes, hotels, schools, correctional facility cells, or structures used for early childhood provision.
The regulation only applies to new construction and to existing properties that change their use materially. It would only impact England.
According to the administration, 81% of participants in the consultation expressed agreement “with the intention for separate single-sex toilet facilities,” while 82% expressed agreement “with the intention to provide universal toilets where space allows” about the suggestions.
