The frequency of blasphemy prosecutions in our nation has increased concerningly in recent years. It is concerning that children and young people are starting to think more and more like the adults who believe that people should be executed for blasphemy, as is far too common in our nation, at schools and madrassas across the nation.
In the most recent instance, a police officer who was supposed to be defending the accused shot a guy in Quetta while he was under police custody. The individual had been encircled by a mob, accused of blasphemy, and placed under protective custody.
The events in Swat led the military to open a school with the goal of deradicalizing kids and teenagers following the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) takeover of the valley. The death of a clerical teacher at the school did not help matters. However, the idea makes sense at first glance. Other countries, such as Sri Lanka, have implemented similar programs to reintegrate child soldiers and young fighters into society.
