KARACHI: Three motorcycle riders died in separate traffic accidents on Sunday, serving as yet another somber reminder of the city’s deteriorating traffic situation.
Abdul Saboor, 25, was instantly killed when a speeding cement mixer truck struck a motorcycle close to Jauhar Mor.
Police were called after an angry mob, incensed about the collision, set the vehicle on fire. The truck driver was taken into custody by the authorities.
A motorcycle was killed by a dumper truck in Liaquatabad No. 10 in another unfortunate occurrence, and another person was killed in Keamari when a car collided with a bike.
There have been at least 207 traffic-related fatalities and 2,623 injuries in Karachi so far this year. Heavy vehicles were responsible for 64 of these deaths, including 22 from trailers and 17 from dumpers.
