LAHORE: Until May 28, when the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) is scheduled to pick a new president, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will serve as the party’s interim president.
The confirmation of the development came from PML-N Lahore President Saif Ul Malook Khokhar, following the party’s central working committee meeting today.
Following Shehbaz’s resignation as party president earlier this week, Shehbaz stated that it was time for Nawaz Sharif to “resume his rightful place as the president of the PML-N” and cited the “unjust” disqualification of the party supremo from the Prime Minister’s office and the party presidency.
The general council meeting of the party, which was originally planned for May 11, will instead take place on May 28 on the occasion of “Youm-e-Takbeer” wherein Nawaz is poised to retake the PML-N presidency.
