Washington: Following Pakistan’s announcement on Wednesday that it was initiating Operation Azm-e-Istehkam, an anti-militancy campaign, the State Department spokesperson stated that the United States backs Pakistan’s efforts to fight terrorism.
The idea aims to intensify intelligence-based operations rather than initiate a new organized armed operation, as Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has promised not to bother the civilian population.
When questioned about the new operation and the US response to its announcement, State Department Spokesperson Matthew Miller stated: “We support Pakistan’s efforts to combat terrorism and ensure the safety and security of its citizens in a manner that promotes the rule of law and protection of human rights.”
