US Ambassador to Pakistan Donald Blome committed more than $320,000 to the Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation, which will be used to preserve cultural artifacts for future generations, at the Mehrgarh Museum in Balochistan on Tuesday.
The museum, which is located in Quetta, was opened in September 2022 by Mir Abdul Qudoos Bizenjo, the chief minister of Balochistan at the time.
Blome, speaking at the occasion, said: “Today, the United States is excited to announce a grant under the Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation of $320,470 that will secure cultural artefacts for the future and enhance the Mehrgarh Museum in Quetta.”
The US envoy described it as a “partnership,” adding that there was more involved than just money.
“With the first Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation project for Balochistan, we’re making history together with the Sindh Exploration and Adventure Society and the Culture Department of Balochistan.”
According to him, the museum serves as a living link to our common human history in addition to being a repository of artifacts.
He continued, “The museum tells the common story of Pakistan and South Asia and represents the rich history of Balochistan.”
“By upgrading the museum’s exhibits and preserving Neolithic and other archaeological artifacts of the Mehrgarh civilization, the Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation grant will help ensure this amazing legacy is preserved and shared with future generations.”
