Senior members of the Haqqani insurgent network in Afghanistan have had millions of dollars in bounties taken away by the US, including one on Sirajuddin Haqqani, the leader of the group and the interior minister of the Taliban administration.
Given that the Haqqani network is suspected of executing some of the most well-known and lethal strikes in Afghanistan during the US-led conflict there, such as assaults on NATO forces and the American and Indian embassies, this is a noteworthy move.
The network now plays a significant role in the Taliban government, which has ruled Afghanistan since the withdrawal of international forces in 2021 as a result of an agreement reached between the US and the Taliban during the first term of President Trump.
