The unnamed official was speaking with the news agency Reuters prior to the Cairo negotiations, which are supposed to be the last step toward a six-week truce.
According to the US, an agreement has already been “more or less accepted” by Israel and is awaiting the militant Hamas group’s consent.
“There’s a deal on the table, and the path to a ceasefire right now literally at this hour,” the unidentified US official stated.
“A framework agreement exists.
“The onus right now is on Hamas.”
