Amnesty International and several US politicians have expressed sympathy for the protesters who took part in the violence-plagued demonstration by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) activists in Islamabad to demand the release of Imran Khan, the party’s founder and leader.
“I stand with the brave Pakistanis who are rising up and protesting for change,” US Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib wrote on X, formerly Twitter, when she wrote, “The violent suppression of demonstrators in Pakistan and mounting political violence is an attempt to stifle democracy and human rights…“.
The remark follows the PTI’s “do-or-die” demonstration, which the party called off after the law enforcement agencies (LEAs) cracked down, killing at least four Rangers members and several police officers.
