In an attempt to address the severe issue brought on by deepfake AI on the internet, US lawmakers from both parties have released a measure to stop the distribution of harmful and abusive pornographic images and videos.
A new law called the DEFIANCE (Disrupt Explicit Forged Images and Non-Consensual Edits) Act of 2024 would hold those responsible for spreading such harmful content accountable by allowing victims, especially women, to file lawsuits against individuals who engage in “digital forgeries.”
This is a reaction to synthetic, artificial intelligence-generated, sexually explicit photos of popular singer and global pop sensation Taylor Swift that surfaced on a number of social media platforms.
Deep fakes are created using sophisticated technology; they usually contain explicit and sexual material and seem real.
