TEXAS: To stop future presidents from enforcing travel restrictions based on religion, Democratic lawmakers have reintroduced the National Origin-Based Antidiscrimination for Nonimmigrants (NO BAN) Act as the Trump administration prepares to reinstate the contentious Muslim Ban.
The bill, which seeks to alter the Immigration and Nationality Act to specifically forbid discrimination based on religion when granting visas or other immigration benefits, was reintroduced under the leadership of Senator Chris Coons (DE) and Congresswoman Judy Chu (CA-28). Additionally, the bill guarantees that any travel restrictions are supported by reliable data and are subject to congressional review.
Reps. Jerry Nadler (NY-12), Don Beyer (VA-08), Ilhan Omar (MN-05), André Carson (IN-07), and Rashida Tlaib (MI-12) are among the notable members who are co-sponsoring the NO BAN Act.
