Just after 1 p.m. on Sunday, Bernard J. Polite, 26, entered the Pennsylvania church and declared, according to court documents, that “God made me do it” and that he intended to “wait to be arrested.”
Glenn Germany told Pittsburgh’s WTAE-TV that Polite had smiled at him moments before pointing the gun. Germany was live streaming a sermon from Jesus’ Dwelling Place Church.
He sidestepped Polite’s tackle by ducking out of the way, then assisted in removing the pistol and holding Polite down until the police could come.
“I am feeling grateful that I woke up this morning and that I am here, it could have gone an opposite direction,” Mr Germany remarked on Monday.
