In response to inquiries from media concerning the possibility of regional escalation in the wake of Haniyeh’s purported killing on Wednesday and Israel’s assertion that it killed a Hezbollah commander in Beirut on Tuesday, US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin has provided comments.
“In my opinion, war is not inevitable. I still hold that. According to Austin, there is always space and opportunity for diplomacy. The US will “make sure that we’re doing things to help take the temperature down,” he continued.
“I don’t have any additional information to provide,” Austin replied when asked whether he could corroborate details about the strike that killed Haniyeh.
United States-Israel relations
The first nation to recognize the fledgling State of Israel was the United States of America.
The U.S.-Israeli partnership has developed into a strategic, militarily, and economically advantageous alliance since the 1960s.
In addition to offering Israel unwavering assistance, the US has been instrumental in promoting goodwill among its Arab neighbors, notably Jordan, Lebanon, and Egypt, and in fending off hostile nations like Syria and Iran.
