The 88-year-old is currently receiving gas through a face mask to aid in his breathing after his lungs had to be aspirated, or cleaned of the vomit.
According to Vatican officials, it would take the physicians 24 to 48 hours to assess if the Pope’s condition has deteriorated or returned to normal. They have not yet provided a prognosis.
