Three Federal Board of Revenue (FRB) officers allegedly threatened Senator Faisal Vawda’s life on Thursday because he objected to a “untransparent” proposal for the nation’s tax authority to purchase a large number of vehicles.
The Senate Standing Committee on Finance and Revenue, of which Vawda is a member, ordered the FBR to halt its proposal to buy 1,010 vehicles for operational use at an estimated cost of Rs6 billion on January 23 due to concerns regarding procurement process transparency.
Similar threatening texts were also received by committee chairman Senator Saleem Mandviwalla, who echoed Vawda’s concerns.
The accusations sparked a contentious discussion during the committee meeting, with worried participants calling for a high-level investigation into the dangers.
Vawda demanded that criminal action be taken in response to the threats.
