The Real Madrid winger was obviously upset when questioned about the ongoing bigotry he has had to deal with in the Spanish league ahead of an international friendly between Brazil and Spain.
La Liga referred ten of these incidents from the previous season to prosecutors; the 23-year-old was most recently the subject of racist taunts from Atletico Madrid supporters before a Champions League match against Inter Milan.
Other instances of harassment included the football player being called racist epithets during a Valencia match and a Sevilla supporter acting as though he was a monkey.
The Brazilian revealed the emotional toll it has taken on him on Monday. He has received a lot of backlash in Spain for speaking straight against racism.
“I just want to play football, but it’s hard to move forward,” Vinicius Jr. said, unable to talk through his tears. My desire to play is waning [because of the racist taunts].
