Earthlings had already witnessed the “Great North American Solar Eclipse” in April of 2024 and the biggest Northern Lights displays in the last 500 years five months into the year.
But if you think that’s all there are going to be this year in terms of cosmic occurrences, you are very wrong.
This year still has a ton of incredible astronomical sights to see, but how about starting with a brilliant comet visible to the unaided eye?
In recent years, two comets have received widespread attention: Comet 12P/Pons-Brooks and the “Great Green Comet,” which passed close to Earth in February 2023.
Comet 12P/Pons-Brooks was named “Devil’s Comet” because of its dramatic brightness flare and gaseous horn-like appendages.
It was challenging to spot both comets unless the sky was dark and clear of light pollution.
