ISLAMABAD: On Wednesday, a magistrate granted senior journalist Waheed Murad a two-day physical remand and turned him over to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).
After being identified in an FIA case involving the dissemination of false information, Murad was arrested last night from his home, where his mother-in-law was also staying. He was then brought before Magistrate Abbas Shah’s court in Islamabad.
He took the rostrum during the hearing and stated: “My mother-in-law has cancer and has traveled from Canada for treatment.” “I was handed over to them [FIA] just 20 minutes ago,” he added.
Hadi Ali, his defense attorney, asked to see the FIR, claiming that Murad had been unlawfully treated, saying that police had broken into his home and even beat him.
