Sources told Geo News on Monday that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has retracted their candidacy for the position of chairman of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the National Assembly, deciding to nominate Sheikh Waqas Akram rather than Sher Afzal Marwat.
The sources claim that the political committee will notify Imran Khan, the founder of the PTI, of the decision to remove Marwat’s name from consideration for the PAC presidency.
The sources stated that in order to remove Marwat’s name, PTI Secretary General and Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly, Omar Ayub Khan, and Senator Shibli Faraz called a meeting of the political committee. They also proposed Akram’s name as Marwat’s replacement.
According to the reports, Asad Qaiser, Sheharyar Afridi, Shandana Gulzar, and Zulfi Bukhari spoke up in support of Marwat during the voting.
Marwat, however, addressed the development and stated that he was neither consulted or invited to the political committee meeting.
The 53-year-old Lakki Marwat native politician is still well-known because of his direct and contentious comments.
