BRUSSELS: As the European Union began crisis discussions on addressing US President Donald Trump’s shift away from Kyiv and its transatlantic allies, Volodymyr Zelensky praised EU leaders Thursday for supporting Ukraine.
For the first time since Trump and Zelensky’s contentious encounter last week, all 27 EU leaders will be present for Thursday’s summit. Washington has since cut off the intelligence sharing and military assistance that Kyiv has needed to repel Russia’s invasion.
“The fact that we are not alone is really appreciated. As the negotiations began, the Ukrainian president stood with EU leaders Antonio Costa and Ursula von der Leyen and told reporters, “And these are not just words.”
America’s long-term commitment to the security of Europe is now in question.
