Despite running a historic campaign, Vice President Kamala Harris lost the US presidential election, making her the second female candidate to lose to Republican Donald Trump.
The analysts who talked to Al Jazeera said that Harris’s loss was reminiscent of fellow Democrat Hillary Clinton’s 2016 loss.
They emphasized that Harris’s gender and race were crucial factors in her loss to former President Trump, whose political career has been characterized by bigotry and misogyny.
According to gender-focused public opinion researcher Tresa Undem, “perceptions of race and gender are the biggest underlying dynamic in American politics right now.”
A tsunami is expected to hit the Democrats, according to Undem and other experts.
