Although Maryam Nawaz’s style of governing upsets Bilawal Bhutto’s party, Imran Khan remains the primary factor fostering unity between the ruling Pakistan Muslim League –Nawaz (PMLN) and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP).
The PPP is unhappy about a few budgetary issues, but its biggest worry is Punjab, where it claims it isn’t getting the political space it was promised when it decided to join the Treasury benches in order to support the PML-N in forming a government.
Sources claim that the PPP is seeking a fair number of jobs inside Punjab’s bureaucracy, especially in the regions where the party is represented in parliament.
However, Maryam Nawaz is unwilling to alter the bureaucracy in response to suggestions from lawmakers.
It is alleged that the chief minister of Punjab even explicitly informed members of her own party that political meddling in law enforcement and civil administration would not be tolerated. The chief minister’s decision has not only caused discomfort for a number of PML-N MPs, but it has also caused great distress for PPP members of the Punjab Provincial Assembly (MPA) and National Assembly (MNA).
Whether Maryam Nawaz will permit Punjabi MPAs and PPP MNAs to have choice officers in their districts remains unclear. According to an N-Leaguer, the chief minister will not likely permit this.
