Karachi: 121,418 fewer passports were given in 2024 than the year before, despite a noticeable increase in the number of Pakistanis wishing to travel overseas.
The number of citizens applying for e-passports increased significantly in 2024 as well.
Mustafa Jamal Qazi, the director general of passports, told TV that 6,596,520 Pakistanis received passports in 2024, compared to 6,717,938 in 2023.
Passport fees contributed Rs47.65 billion to the government exchequer in 2024. In 2024, 715,074 Pakistanis living abroad received passports, while 5,206,234 nationals of Pakistan were granted passports, according to the Passport DG.
In 2024, 257,398 e-passports were created, and 252,141 passports were processed online.
