The inquiry committee, led by the cabinet division secretary, reported that no political or government official had been called in to look into the claims of excessive wheat imports.
In its first meeting, the inquiry committee looking into the wheat import issue examined documents and statistics, according to a notice released on Sunday.
According to the announcement, the probe committee did not meet with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
It further stated that although the preliminary report has not yet been given to anyone, the inquiry committee’s report is now being completed.
The move follows rumors that the probe committee may call former interim prime minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar, former finance minister Shamshad Akhtar, and then-prime minister Minister Mohsin Naqvi.
A day earlier, Kakar denied any wrongdoing in the import of wheat and said he was ready to join the investigation into the import of the staple crop.
“I will appear before the wheat [inquiry] committee if it summons me,” the ex-premier said.
