The 65-year-old vocalist, who rose to fame as a member of the family pop group The Nolans, said last year that she was receiving treatment for secondary breast cancer that had spread to her brain, impairing her ability to balance and necessitating a wheelchair.
Since then, she has been receiving consistent treatment, which caused the tumors to first shrink and then stabilize.
The singer said she “sobbed” to her consultant when she learned the treatment was no longer working. Last year, the singer revealed she was getting ready for “the inevitable”.
“I was afraid that something wasn’t right. My equilibrium has been deteriorating.
When I get lost in the middle of a sentence, my sisters have to remind me,” she said in a Wednesday post to The Mirror.
“Maureen accompanied me to the consultation, and I could sense that my Macmillan Cancer Support nurse was present. ‘Has it spread?’ I asked my consultant right away.
