According to Alaska State Troopers, the 32-year-old male suffered critical injuries in both the mauling and the gunshot on the Kenai Peninsula on Saturday.
However, according to Alaska State Troopers spokesperson Tim DeSpain, it is unclear who fired the shot that struck the man as he attempted to repel the bear.
The hunter, whose identity was not disclosed right away, was taken to an Anchorage hospital via helicopter.
Mr. DeSpain stated that the bear had died.
