When Duchess Sophie visited troops stationed at the Warcop Training Centre in Cumbria, she wore a military uniform.
As the Royal Colonel of the Queen’s Own Yeomanry, the wife of Prince Edward, Duke of Edinburgh, made the trip.
Her supporters viewed her visit as a powerful example of the close ties between the nation’s armed forces and the Royal Family.
“Her Royal Highness had the opportunity to meet and speak to reservists of the Regiment and learned more about their work after witnessing a training exercise,” the Royal Family said in a statement.
The Queen’s Own Yeomanry is a light cavalry regiment of the Army Reserve that was established in 1971.
