The 53-year-old journalist shared a family photo of her mother with her grandchildren and Jamie, Zoe’s brother, on social media.
She also disclosed that Gaby Roslin, a broadcaster, will fill in for her while she was away.
Ball stated: “Our lovely Mama Julia has received a devastating cancer diagnosis. As many of you are aware from personal experience, these are really difficult times. Mom is shown amazing bravery.
“My brother Jamie and I are utterly amazed by the exceptional medical professionals, nurses, and support staff taking care of Mum. I’m grateful.
“Gratitude to our families & our extended family & friends at home & at work for their support at this time.”
Ball added that she was considering anyone else who might be going through a cancer diagnosis at this time.
