On Monday, China will send Vice-President Han Zheng to the inauguration of US President-elect Donald Trump. This is the first time a senior Chinese official would attend the swearing-in of a US president.
Traditionally, foreign leaders do not attend US presidential inaugurations, thus Trump broke with precedent by inviting Chinese President Xi Jinping and other leaders.
China has expressed its desire to “find the right way for the two countries to get along with each other in the new era” by collaborating with the newly appointed US government.
However, Beijing is also getting ready for a Trump administration, which is anticipated to bring more aggressive rhetoric and increased levies on products made in China. China is “the largest, most advanced adversary America faces,” according to Secretary of State candidate Marco Rubio.
