Butter chicken is one of the most popular Indian dishes outside of the nation; two Indian restaurant chains are suing each other over who originated the dish, which makes it both delicious and contentious.
In a 2,752-page court statement, the Gujral family—owners of the well-known Delhi restaurant chain Moti Mahal—accused rival business Daryaganj of forging the renowned curry dish dal makhani and asserting that it was created in the 1930s.
The originator, Kundan Lal Gujral, is accused of creating the dish in Peshawar before relocating to Delhi, according to the lawsuit, which has gained widespread attention in India.
The Gujral family is requesting $240,000 in damages and claims that Daryaganj has imitated the design and appearance of Moti Mahal’s website.”A person’s legacy cannot be taken away… The dish was created during our grandfather’s time in Pakistan, according to Moti Mahal’s managing director, Monish Gujral.
