An 18-year-old United Nations resolution has reappeared as a model for ending the conflict, with a truce between Israel and Hezbollah imminent.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s spokeswoman told news on Monday that the Israeli cabinet will vote on a ceasefire accord on Tuesday and that it is expected to be approved.
Implementing UN Security Council Resolution 1701 is the goal of the 60-day cease-fire, which is intended to serve as the foundation for a permanent peace.
After a 34-day conflict between Israel and Lebanon ended in 2006 with the adoption of Resolution 1701, the region had been comparatively peaceful for almost 20 years.
