An 18-year-old United Nations resolution has reappeared as a model for ending the conflict, with a truce between Israel and Hezbollah imminent.

After a 34-day conflict between Israel and Lebanon ended in 2006 with the adoption of Resolution 1701, the region had been comparatively peaceful for almost 20 years.
