It declares a criminal behavior order that prohibits the 60-year-old from going into any area of Macclesfield, his hometown, or any Cheshire Co-op store.
Chris remarks, “I feel like I’ve been punished twice,” once for the initial offense and once more for the ban. For him and his aging mother, it makes tasks like shopping and doctor’s appointments more difficult.
In all the hoopla about the surge in shoplifting in Britain, Chris is one of those people we hardly ever hear from. He agrees that he is among the hordes of shoplifters.
What made me do it? I did it as a result of my drug use. “I had no choice,” he claims.
Although I am aware that it is wrong, it didn’t seem to be harming anyone. I wasn’t stealing purses from elderly women; I’m not advocating shoplifting, but I think it’s necessary.
